Sometimes a job that can initially seem straightforward may actually require clever builders to rewrite the laws of physics. Arpad Builders and its owner Tom Treece were not just going to have to merge two back-to-back bathrooms into one: their real task was to invent a means of time travel to transport this Santa Fe bathroom from the 1980s to the 2020s.
The effort to modernize these bathrooms into an envy-inspiring suite amounted to removing common walls, cutting the concrete slab, relocating plumbing, and adding a large, walk-in shower. But what entranced the homeowner was the free-standing, cast iron clawfoot tub set upon a beautifully tiled floor. To round out the project, a tile wainscot from the shower leads to a pocket-doored water closet and a quartz countertop with a matched backsplash that adorns a showroom-quality vanity. So it was Arpad Builders reinvigorated a 1980s oldie into a true modern classic.
