Garcia Street • Historic Remodel
The historic remodel began with 6 months and 4 meetings with The Historic District Review Board to gain final approval for building permits.
The scope of work was an entire interior deconstruction of the structure which had undergone several remodels and additions over the course of the last century. Additionally, the main structure was redesigned to accommodate a larger master bedroom and a new master bathroom and cedar lined closet.
The casita which consisted of one main room and a small bath, was redesigned and expanded to become a full one bedroom casita with bath and laundry facilities. This was achieved on the existing footprint by incorporating unused storage areas and a small walkway between the carport and casita.
Items of historic interest: Original ceilings and decking in the main house were preserved and refinished as were brick floors. Original adobe walls were preserved and refinished.
The complete structure was redesigned for modern forced air and ductless combinations. The electrical systems were redesigned and replaced and the structures were completely rewired. All interior walls were refinished in American Clay. Fireplaces were converted to gas.
The theme of the interior design was historic Santa Fe style married with Moroccan influences.
