The mission of Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity is to promote affordable home ownership for Santa Fe area residents by constructing simple, adequate, and energy efficient new homes and repairing or rehabilitating existing homes through the cooperative efforts of partner families, volunteers, donors, and staff.

Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Based on principles learned at Koininia Farm, the Fullers began their mission to eliminate poverty housing as a Christian ministry. Incepted in 1987, Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity was formed by a group of dedicated, faith-based volunteers. In the early years we built one home per year. Our organization has grown to meet local needs and we now build six homes per year. In the future we plan to double our capacity to build up to twelve homes per year.

Santa Fe Habitat seeks to build lives as well as houses. Through the houses we build, hope is restored and lives are changed as the cycle of need is broken. How we build is just as important as what we build. Habitat houses are built with a contribution of five hundred hours of ‘sweat equity’ labor by the future Habitat Partner homeowners.

By investing themselves in the building process, Partner Families gain self-reliance, self-esteem and new skills. By investing time, money, materials, and their expertise, Habitat volunteers, donors, organizations, businesses and professional trades gain new relationships, which extend far beyond the immediate impact. Habitat brings together people from all walks of life, with varied skills and economic backgrounds, to achieve a common goal of service to others. We build houses, and thus we build hope.
